The new airport, which will primarily serve the greater Cagayan de Oro – Iligan area, is expected to be completed late this year on December 2010 with commercial operations starting as early as January 2011. The Laguindingan International Airport was built to replace Cagayan de Oro’s Lumbia Airport known to be the 2nd busiest airport in Mindanao and the 5th in the whole Philippines in terms of passenger traffic in 2009.
